"It's Hammer Time" was an examination of the simplicity of value, shape, and line. Based on the works of Jim Dine the point of such a composition was to explore the nature of shading and the skill of compositional design. In this piece the artist attempted to capture a hammer in motion. The three variants of the hammer show the swinging motion until the solitary middle one portrays it striking a nail. The black dots surrounding are meant to represent hammer marks, and the black and white contrast at the top of the page is reminiscent of a wall.
